jonteAre postfuncs supposed to be executed when functions are executed using bb.build.exec_func ? I'm having an issue where archiver.bbclass isn't invoking a postfunc on do_unpack in openjdk-8-common.inc. Here's archiver.bbclass: https://github.com/openembedded/openembedded-core/blob/master/meta/classes/archiver.bbclass#L478 , and here's openjdk-8-common: http://git.yoctoproject.org/cgit/cgit.cgi/meta-java/tree/recipes-core/openjdk/openjdk-8-09:02
jontecommon.inc#n15809:03
jonteSince that postfunc isn't being invoked, some 'submodules' of openjdk aren't unpacked, and do_patch in the archiver workdir fails :-/09:03
jonteFrom the docs, it seems like postfuncs are for tasks, so maybe this is the intended behavior when do_unpack is executed as a function?09:04
hopper_I was about to comment that. I believe this is correct behaviour as its for tasks09:05
*** hpsy <hpsy!~hpsy@92.118.12.53> has joined #yocto09:05
jontehopper_, I "solved" my issue by converting the postfuncs to _append on do_unpack, but that doesn't seem like an ideal solution..09:06
hopper_lol your a perfectionist with too much time lol09:06
jonteWell, I assume they're postfuncs and not appended for a reason :)09:07

qschulzwhereas you can't mix shell and python functions in the same task09:10
jonteqschulz, Ahh.. Yes, they're bash functions. That's probably the reasoning for using a postfunc.. My _append simply does bb.build.exec_func on the same functions. Maybe that's not so bad then? I could send a patch to meta-java.09:13

zeddiiI spent 3 hours getting strace to build against the v5.8 uapi headers. That's my contributing to the things going wrong.13:03
zeddiiI almost just rm'd the recipe and put in place something that echo'd "use perf"13:03

zeddiiwho knew that strace was so "strange" to build. the fact that we don't build it out of their git repo made it harder, you can't just backport patches because there are parts they only generate on release.13:05

RPzeddii: I've kind of wanted git recipes for some things for this reason, its just the maintenance issue of maintaining them :/14:21
zeddiiI almost went with the git dev class extension for it, but that's no good for release, so I sorted it out by running a bootstrap once, and then we can patch in the new file until they release an strace 5.8 .. but getting to the point of understanding where that magic file came from .. took the time :D14:22

mischiefi do not know the value of my env var beforehand; the ecs agent poplates it for me in the container environment, so i need to pass it through17:56
mischiefi guess to be fair the BB_ENV_EXTRAWHITE docuentation does say 'Specifies an additional set of variables to allow through (whitelist) from the external environment into BitBake's datastore.' - its explicit that it is in the datastore17:57
mischiefi was just not aware that this does *not* also include exporting the variable into subprocesses17:57
mischiefand it was some kind of accident that it worked some of the time17:58

jadelclemensHey all, is this the appropriate venue for a Bitbake question? I couldn't find a specific IRC for that.18:00
JPEWmischief: IIRC if you mark a variable as "export" it gets put in all task taskhashes (unless excluded), so if you made BB_ENV_EXTRAWHITE do that automatically, it would result in rebuilding everything anytime one changed18:00
mischiefJPEW: okay. if i add my variable to BB_ENV_EXTRAWHITE, and write an export statement for it, how do i exclude it from task hashes?18:02
jadelclemensI'm reading up on Bitbake and I'm a little confused as to the use of the `rdeptask` task flag. If a runtime dependency needs to be deployed before another recipe can begin execution, what is the use of having a task depend on another in this way? Since it's guaranteed that the dependency recipe will be finished before your recipe begins.18:03
JPEWmischief: Add the variable to BB_HASHBASE_WHITELIST18:05

*** nslu2-log_ is now known as nslu2-log18:11

*** jadelclemens <jadelclemens!~jadelclem@c-174-51-134-157.hsd1.co.comcast.net> has left #yocto18:12
JPEWmischief: I believe so. export is tricky because bitbake can't figure out if its actually used in a task or not (since it's just part of the env, the build program could do *anything* with it), so it assumes its a dependency of every task18:14
*** Eleventh_Doctor <Eleventh_Doctor!~neal@fedora/ngompa> has quit IRC18:14

mischiefJPEW: okay, understood. the variable in my case is needed by the aws cli in the s3 fetcher, so its use is indeed hidden from bitbake.18:17
JPEWmischief: Right, it sounds like its some sort of credentials, which you want to be accessible (e.g. tasks can use it), but not be factored into the task hashes (e.g. changing credentials should not cause a rebuild)18:19

JPEWmischief: meaning, it's only included in task hashes if it is referenced by another variable or task that is include in the hash19:05
JPEWmischief: At least, for the BBMULTICONFIG variable itself. Obviously pulling in the other config file could change all sorts of things :)19:07
