qschulzHow does one create a minimal config fragment? Basically, I have a defconfig and I want to enable/disable some Kconfig options from a config fragment. The smallest this config fragment the better obviously08:46
qschulzRight now, what I have boils down to make defconfig, save the .config, apply changes manually, diff old and new .config and redirect to file08:47
qschulzbut that's a .config diff, quite verbose08:47
abellonidefine minimal config fragment ;)08:49
LetoThe2ndqschulz: https://docs.yoctoproject.org/kernel-dev/common.html#creating-configuration-fragments not being helpful?08:49

qschulzabelloni: minimal config = defconfig, minimal config fragment = ... something? :D08:50
qschulzI don't know honestly, just not really happy with the big diff I have right now08:50
qschulzLetoThe2nd: that's what the do_diffconfig task is doing IIRC08:51
abelloniinstead of diffing the .config, you should diff the defconfig08:52
abellonibut my opinion is still that fragments are bad08:52
ptsneves@abelloni, why?08:52
qschulzabelloni: diffing defconfig is not a valid way to create a config fragment is what my intuition is telling me08:52
qschulzabelloni: agreed on fragments being bad :) (though very convenient in Yocto)08:53
abelloniptsneves: because there is no guarante they will work and they will fail silently08:53
qschulzabelloni: (creating a debug fragment for a Buildroot defconfig right now)08:53

*** nemik <nemik!~nemik@207.237.248.190> has joined #yocto08:54
qschulzand thus won't appear in the diff from do_diffconfig08:55
qschulz(I borrowed the implem in do_diffconfig for Buildroot defconfig)08:55
ptsnevesabelloni: yes, my impression. Especially that the dependencies might be in other fragments08:56
ptsnevesand the whole thing might work by luck08:56
ptsnevesi like the overall idea of grouping the kconfigs though. Quite helpful. Maybe the best would be a tool that verified that the fragment is selfcontained08:57
qschulzptsneves: not enough still, because you could apply two fragments which are conflicting08:59
qschulzthe last one would override the ones before08:59
qschulz+applied08:59
qschulzand silently do so08:59
qschulzso you think you are applying two fragments (well, you actually do) but do not get the two features08:59

jsandmanHi, Is there a way I can tell a recipe not to create premirror artifacts in the donwloads directory? I have a component which uri is really a symlinc to a "latest" version and the premirrors mechanisims is not letting me get this working on my distro.10:49
JaMajsandman: you can set the downloadfilename to PV or something instead of "latest" but if you don't know what "latest" you'll get it doesn't help much ask upstream to provide useful versioned download url as well10:53
* JaMa hates various tools which recommend to install them as "curl https://foo.bar/latest | sudo sh"10:54
qschulzjsandman: I don't think it's a good idea to do that, how do you plan to reliably build your images in the future?10:55
JaMaand from there I hate all "latest" unless it's just a symlink and you can still choose to download carefully selected version instead10:55
qschulzJaMa: what do you mean you don't like running random script as root?10:56
JaMaI would never do that, but I hate that documentation often recommends it and I know other people who would copy&paste it from documentation without any thought at all, because it's the documentation, right, so it must be true10:57

wyre_hi guys, I've got this recipe https://bpa.st/KCNQ but when I build my image I have a QA issue saying "File /usr/bin/rs485-listener in package rs485-listener doesn't have GNU_HASH (didn't pass LDFLAGS?) [ldflags]", apparently the line 28 https://bpa.st/KCNQ#1L28 should fix it, but when I uncomment there is problems in the do_compile task https://bpa.st/2TRA which I find normal because I didn't set12:46
wyre_any value for LDFLAGS variable in my recipe, but ... I'm using oe_runmake in the do_compile task, which should run my Makefile https://bpa.st/L3HA12:46
*** wyre_ is now known as wyre12:46
wyreso not sure why I need to set LDFLAGS in the recipe 🤔12:46
qschulzwyre: we don't have access to the gitlab source code, so I assume it's a Makefile based project which overrides LDFLAGS12:49
qschulzwyre: which version of yocto are you using? because there's a mix of old and new override syntax12:49
wyreqschulz, I've pasted the Makefile contents12:49
wyreqschulz, yocto or bitbake?12:50
qschulzwyre: i sure hope both are in sync :D12:50
qschulzwyre: ah missed the last paste.bin sorry12:51
wyreqschulz, well, bitbake is 1.46.012:51
wyreI'm using the crops/poky docker container12:51
qschulzwyre: ok so, first, there's no LDFLAGS passed so that's not great12:51
qschulzwyre: second, you need to inherit pkg-config in yoru recipe if you want pkg-config to work in your makefile12:52
wyreqschulz, in the Makefile, you mean?12:52
qschulzLDFLAGS not used in your Makefile yes12:53
wyreI mean, when you say there's no LDFLAGS passed ... you mean in the Makefile?12:53
wyreqschulz, I've tried to inherit pkg-config in the recipe but bitbake says "ParseError at /home/pokyuser/building/joifi-engicam-mx6-dunfell/sources/meta-joifi/recipes-apps/rs485-listener/rs485-listener.bb:32: Could not inherit file classes/pkg-config.bbclass"12:53
wyreqschulz, so ... maybe should I replace LIBS name with LDFLAGS? 🤔12:54
qschulzwyre: https://docs.yoctoproject.org/ref-manual/classes.html#pkgconfig-bbclass12:54
*** ptsneves <ptsneves!~Thunderbi@public-gprs227573.centertel.pl> has quit IRC (Ping timeout: 244 seconds)12:54
qschulzpkgconfig apparently and not pkg-config12:54
wyreoh, tank you 😊12:55
wyreregarding the Makefile ... you think https://bpa.st/AJLA may work? qschulz12:56
wyre(it's working apparently 😜)12:56
qschulzwyre: yay \o/12:58

moto-timoI'm under NDA so I can't actually say21:28
moto-timobut the crate that isn't fetching is dbus21:28
*** GNUmoon2 <GNUmoon2!~GNUmoon@gateway/tor-sasl/gnumoon> has joined #yocto21:28
moto-timoand in a previous recipe (which "fixed" itself) it was 'which'21:28
moto-timoIt sounds similar to BZ 1483721:29
moto-timoah-ha21:30
vmesonmoto-timo: yeah, related in some way but really isn't this a sign that you need to list all the crates ?21:31
moto-timodo_compile[network] = "1"  in the offending recipe21:31
vmesonmoto-timo: ah-ha!21:31
moto-timovmeson: the crate was listed, but maybe you are right about a missing second or third tier dep not caught by cargo-bitbake21:31
vmesonmoto-timo: sounds like, it, please let us know if you confirm.21:32
* vmeson skulks back to bloody CVEs21:32
JaMasakoman: did you intentionally skip https://git.openembedded.org/openembedded-core/commit/?id=642348f9b4656a090b5a272c18a6723c60100e08 in the current PR?21:34
sakomanJaMa: No, not intentional!  I somehow dropped it when I put that together, even though I did test it.  Thanks for catching that, can't believe I did that :-(21:36
sakomanI will resend with it included21:37
RPvmeson: I enabled rust toolchains in the SDK by default21:43
RP(on the autobuilder)21:43
JaMasakoman: no problem21:46
sakomanJaMa: OK, resent.  thanks again!21:51
JaMathanks21:52
JaMabetter solution was suggested in upstream, will update both master and kirkstone once it lands in glibc/master21:52
sakomanJaMa: OK, I'll keep an eye out for that21:57
