mcfriskmemory and io pressure detection in bitbake to reduce new tasks is good, but what is the kernel configuration and version needed for this? On my Debian LTS machines I don't have /proc/pressure08:06

agherzanHow do you guys handle cases where you want to remove things from world based on required feature?11:14
agherzanI'm asking because when you have a dependency of a package that is specific to a feature while the package(s) depending on it don't, world will fail.11:15
agherzanA(requires foo feature) <-B<-world11:15
RPagherzan: usually have the recipe SkipRecipe if it can't build?11:15
RPi.e. it shouldn't available in world if it can't build11:16
agherzanThe problem is B needs A which needs distro feature X. But B itself doesn't need distro feature X11:16
agherzanIs the general workaround to add a feature req to B as well?11:16
agherzanLooks a bit artificial but I can't see what else we can do11:17
RPagherzan: it is a hard problem, not an easy answer. Common .inc file shared maybe?11:18
agherzandistro feature check does in turn SkipRecipe so yes, I'm basically asking if this is the only workaround at this point11:18
agherzanI'm not sure how an inc file would help here.11:18
agherzanOn. For the entire dep chain11:18
RPagherzan: You could code the knowledge of the feature in one place instead of two recipes11:19
agherzanGotcha yeah. Where would that reside when you cross layers for example?11:19
agherzanOr even when you cross recipe-foo namespaces11:19
RPagherzan: you can put paths in include names so in a layer is ok11:20
RPcross layer you could make it an optional include I guess11:20
agherzanMakes sense. I was curious how we workaround it at this point11:20
agherzanIt is indeed a hard problem11:20
RPagherzan: I've not seen the above done, I just think it could work11:20
agherzanMaybe we should make world ignore any dep paths that has a restriction base on something11:21
agherzanbased*11:21
agherzanso if you have any dependency (in the dep chain) that requires a feature not available, skip this recipe too11:21
RPagherzan: The risk is thing silently disappearing. It is a piece of code I don't really want magic in11:22
*** zpfvo <zpfvo!~fvo@i59F5CF69.versanet.de> has joined #yocto11:22
agherzanI'm thinking out loud to be honest but it doesn't like the worst idea11:22
agherzanBesides that, yes11:22
agherzanSilent skips are annoying11:22
RPagherzan: magic like that has very poor failure modes11:22
agherzanI know. I'll think about it11:22
agherzanThanks for confirming my approach here11:23
agherzanI'll go a fix meta-java with this11:23

BWhittenHi all, I'm having trouble with overrides and weak assignments to the SRC_URI of a recipe. I am trying to override in my local.conf so that it looks at a local checkout of some source instead of the recipe location, but I'm getting unstuck because of machine overrides in the recipe that appear to take precedence. My best attempt so far has been an immediate assign := in local.conf at the pn_${PN} level, then in the recipe a first weak15:38
BWhittenassign ?= at the machine level then patches append at machine level. But the weak assignment doesn't yield to the previous immediate and it gets overwritten15:38

qschulzBWhitten: I might be very tired but it is difficult for me to understand the whole context, is it possible to share the actual code? e.g. the SRC_URI lines from the recipe and what you're putting into your local.conf and what you expect to happen and what actually happens?15:46
zeddiihas anyone noticed on-target applications not doing ncurses/curses like drawing properly ? I'm trying to sort out a tui issue, and I'm plagued by ??? instead of lines. I've tried every sort of TERM type export I can think of. nothing.15:51
BWhittenqschulz, I didn't appreciate you could chain them like that, that splats over everything but a step in the right direction. Sure I'll pop something into pastebin15:58

BWhittenqschulz, here we go https://pastebin.com/jc7sPf9016:15
qschulzBWhitten: yup, works as expected16:15
qschulzbut I guess you want to keep the patches16:16
qschulzBWhitten: so I recommend using :remove instead16:16
qschulzBWhitten: SRC_URI:mx8m-generic-bsp:remove:pn-fb5-uem = "extrepo" and then SRC_URI:mx8m-generic-bsp:append:pn-fb5-uem = " localrepo"16:17
qschulzalthough, I think you could create a bbappend which inherits externalsrc and points to your local directory16:17
qschulzI think it may not do anything with the SRC_URI variable then16:18
qschulz(I mean, devtool leverages externalsrc recipe IIRC for modifying recipe source code locally, don't know if it messes with SRC_URI also)16:18
BWhittenqschulz, that could be an interesting way to do it Yeh its just like the devtool approach sans patching16:19

yudjinn[m]1I'm trying to build `flatbuffers` and the cmake "build" step works correctly. it also installs to an "image" folder in the project dir, but then it only moves the /usr/lib into the sysroot-components, not the /usr/bin20:00
yudjinn[m]1any thoughts? its a step after `do_install` but I dont understand why its not bringing the other install artifacts20:04
khemadams[1]: sometimes its created in initramfs-framework if you are using that recipe or in device_table in image during rootfs creation20:11
khemyudjinn: it generally brings developement headers and libs from a dependent component in recipe sysroot generally20:12
khemit seems you also need some tools if so then see if you can use a native version of recipe to generate these tools and use them20:13
