qschulz(or bbnote but it's hidden by default IIRC)09:15
greenwhaleI basically want to play with the variables to become with using yocto, i.e. it says         LAYERDEPENDS lists the layers, without running the entire yocto build I thought there might be a way to achieve this. Then I'll try to work with bbwarn09:17
qschulzgreenwhale: I didn't understand what exactly you want to do, can you rephrase?09:19
greenwhaleYes, my goal is to learn yocto. For that I wanted to play with the variables that exist when making recipes such as the variable LAYERDEPENDS which supposedly lists layers or the variable LAYERDIR which provides the path of the current layer. I don't want to put these variables just in a recipe and use them straight away then run the build. I want09:22
greenwhaleto actually see what happens if I use the variable LAYERDIR, that is I want some way to execute a function with this variable LAYERDIR as argument and that it gives me, in this case, the path of the current layer.09:22
qschulzbbwarn will print the content of the variable on your console when it is run09:25
greenwhalethen that is just what I need, thanks!09:26

dacavwkawka: install has a few forms.  The one you mention treats all arguments as directory names, and creates them all, but does not install anything.13:15
dacavProbably you want to do `install -d` of the directory, as it was a mkdir, and then install individual files to it using the `-t` form.13:16
dacavinstall is a bit confusing :) but the manpage is showing all the various forms.13:18

RPJPEW: do we know what the performance hit is and where?16:13
RPi.e. is it from the hashing or from the storage?16:13

JPEWStorage mostly. The size of the SPDX gets pretty big when your add that16:22
RPJPEW: right, that is something I worried you'd say16:27
RPJPEW: as if it wasn't big enough already16:27

JPEWI need to upgrade us to SPDX 2.3 which drops most (all?) Of the NOASSERTIONs, so that will help, but it's still big16:29
otavioLocutusOfBorg: I asked for NXP internal review.16:31
LocutusOfBorgthanks16:31
LocutusOfBorgbtw this change was tested on one of hour board, with a qt app built to output on framebuffer16:31
LocutusOfBorgand didn't error out16:31
LocutusOfBorgwe avoided wayland server binaries, even tho we can't avoid libwayland16:32
LocutusOfBorgbut still saved 10MB of disk space or similar16:32
LocutusOfBorg(and boot time)16:32
otavioLocutusOfBorg: so please mention this on the PR16:32

RPJPEW: https://autobuilder.yoctoproject.org/typhoon/#/builders/102/builds/3571/steps/13/logs/stdio might be the previous issue happening again with the new logging timestamps20:58
JPEWRP: Could be, can you save off the build directory by chance?20:59
JPEWHuh.... interesting that avahi is starting up this time....21:00
JPEWIs the AB under load by chance?21:00
RPJPEW: I think it wasn't too bad load wise21:01
RPJPEW: I've not looked in detail but I should try and save it off21:01
RPJPEW: maint may have wiped it, will need to check21:02
JPEWI'm pretty sure that the post-install scripts are restarting services and it's just a timing thing if a later test happens to see it as "up" or not21:02
RPJPEW: maint cleaned it :(21:03
JPEWI think there might be a way to wait for system to finish whatever it things needs to be happening....21:03
JPEWRP: That's OK, it21:03
JPEWit wouldn't shed much more than we had from the other one21:03
JPEW(or I'm guessing at least)21:04
RPJPEW: ok. I just wanted to mention in case the logs showed anything interesting/useful21:04
JPEWRP: Ya it does actually21:04
JPEWRP: Can we reboot qemu after the post-install is... re-installed?21:07
JPEWIs it weird to use uninstalling and installing post-install scripts as the test for seeing if packages can be installled?21:08

RPJPEW: I suspect we were also testing that the scripts work21:11
RPJPEW: we should probably look at rewriting the tests. Rebooting qemu may be possible but would probably cause a new set of races21:11
JPEWI don't know much about postinst, but I think one of the scripts it's running is the culprit21:12
JPEWNormally, postinstall would run on first boot(?) and pretty early (before sysinit.target, which is... early in systemd parlance); I wouldn't be surpised if running it after the system is all up and running causes some weird unexpected behavior (like interrupting services for example :)21:14
JPEWMIght be nice to see what actual postinit scripts are running to narrow it down21:15
RPJPEW: run-postinsts is meant to run the postinsts on target that didn't run during rootfs construction. once that happens, it should never be run again21:17
RPJPEW: so it is a really bad idea as a test arget21:17
RPJPEW: in theory once it has run, it should never run again21:18
RPJPEW: the way it does that would explain why it can rerun and I bet the scripts aren't designed to handle that21:19
RP(update-rc.d -f run-postinsts remove)21:19
RPwhy are we using this as the test target? :/21:19

RPJPEW: I think it was used as it makes a nice easy always available -dev package, but it is silly21:22
RPanswer is definitely to rewrite the test21:22
JPEWRP: Ya, I suspect that will fix the bug21:22

RPsorry, I should have looked at this earlier in the week. I've been trying to take it a bit easier whilst M3 was in QA21:22
JPEWRP: It's OK; knowing the problem is half the battle :)21:23
RPJPEW: indeed it is. Tracking it down to the postinst tests is really helpful21:28
