walterHello, what's the correct way to update a recipe that is provided in a 3rd party layer? My update patch is already merged, but I would like to update libcamera in my current project without having to use the master branch again. Is overriding PV & SRCREV in a libcamera_%.bbappend enough? it seems to work.15:31

frayhowever, if you are changing the version, then this can lead to confusion.  since you could be taking recipe_1.0.bb, applying a bbappend to it  recipe_%.bbappend is the same as recipe_1.0.bbappend -- but you set the 'PV' to 2.0 (with coresponding SRCREV).   So now if you scan the system it'll tell you your recipe 1.0, produces packages of version 2.0..  confusing for CVE reports and other things..15:33

fraywhat I've told my developers to do, when the version changes you need to copy the original recipe into the local layer and make your changes.  (Also submit teh changes upstream so the next version of the code has it and you can remove the local version later)15:34

fraynote, we _DO_ use SRCREV updates through bbappends at times, but generally these are for cases where there is an upstream bugfix, but the upstream version hasn't actually changed yet15:35
