mortIs there a way to get bitbake to not use inotify?10:59

mrudisable it in the kernel :-)11:09
morthow would you do that? I'm having trouble finding anything about it through google, but google has become really bad at finding anything remotely obscure11:30
mruCONFIG_INOTIFY_USER11:31
mrubut it's probably not a good idea to disable that11:31
mrulots of things use inotify11:31
mruwhat is your actual problem?11:31

mortthat bitbake tries to use inotify11:52
mortliterally that's it, qemu doesn't implement inotify and bitbake crashes if inotify syscalls return ENOSYS11:53
mruthen disabling it in the kernel won't help11:53
mrusince you'd get ENOSYS11:53
mruwhy are you running bitbake under qemu?11:54
mruseems a weird thing to do11:54
mortit doesn't really work with arm6411:54
mrurun it on a pc then11:54
mortI am11:54
mruso what's arm64 got to do with it?11:55
mortthis is an arm PC11:55
mrurun it on an x86 pc then11:55
mortI wanted to see if it was possible to run bitbake on this PC through emulating x8611:56
mrualso, arm64 pc what?11:56
mortI know it'd be slow and everything, it's mainly an experiment11:56
mortmost of Apple's new PCs run ARM11:56
mruthat's not a pc then11:56
mruit's a mac11:56
mortlooks a lot like a personal computer to me11:56
mortI don't know what else you put in the word PC which makes a normal laptop running a unix not a PC11:58
mruwell, some would say a pc is an x86 running windows12:00
mortoh, then running this on a PC would certainly not have helped, since yocto doesn't support windows afaik12:00
mruthe more common meaning is a descendant of the ibm pc12:00
mruregardless of what it runs12:01
mortthe proper solution is to _not_ run this on a PC but on a build server12:01
mrumy 16-core epyc desktop runs it just fine, no need for a separate server12:02
mortyeah I'm gonna try this on my 16-core desktop too, but long-term, it would be better to have a build server for this12:02
*** camus <camus!~Instantbi@58.246.136.202> has quit IRC (Quit: camus)12:03
mruwhat distinguishes a server from a desktop?12:03
mrumine has a "server" motherboard fwiw12:03
mortwhether its primary purpose is to be a personal computer or to be a shared resource I suppose12:04

mortShould yocto be building a custom glibc first which it uses to compile the host GNU toolchain? Currently it tries to build a GNU toolchain using whatever glibc version is already on the host system, which usually fails17:27
