jstephanhi all, I have a question regarding oeqa self tests: do the tests of a given module have to be completely independant?13:54
jstephanIn my bblock self test https://lists.openembedded.org/g/openembedded-core/message/185408 all the 4 tests rely on <build>/conf/bblock.conf13:54
jstephanall the tests PASS locally but one of them fails on autobuilder13:55
jstephanI am not able to reproduce locally so I think it is a random error that happens when parallelism is involved13:56

jstephanso my question is : can the problem be that all the 4 tests rely on the same file and pollution can happen?13:57

rburtonyou have to be able to run any test in isolation, or all of them at the same time16:10
rburtontests ran in parallell will have different build directories, but if you assume a filename outside of the build tree then it will break16:11

dodoradiohi, is there a way to get a 64 bit package to build on a 32 bit system?17:36
*** florian_kc <florian_kc!~florian@dynamic-093-131-038-095.93.131.pool.telefonica.de> has joined #oe17:36
dodoradioI've got a machine that needs a 64 bit kernel and a 32 bit packages for everything else (32 bit is needed because of some binary blobs that I can't control)17:37
dodoradioour setup is such that we really would prefer to have these all compiled as part of one machine17:38

rburtonEverything or just one app? Multilib will let you build a mostly 64 bit system with a subset of 32 bit too17:47
khemenable multilib and then bitbake lib32-<image-name> should build 32bit userspace on 64bit kernel17:57

dodoradioI've tried multilib but this ends up with armv7 packages and essentially identical but incompatible multilib-armv7 packages19:11
dodoradiothis would be a massive inconvenience for packaging19:12
dodoradiocurrently I've got the watch set up as two separate machines, one which builds the kernel and one which builds all other packages. This gives me the result that I want: from userspace the watch appears to be entirely armv7 and behaves like all our other armv7 devices. but this leads to a very messy build setup19:13
smurrayI could imagine trying a 64-bit multiconfig to build just the kernel19:15
dodoradiorather than have the device behave like a 64 bit system with a series of 32 bit packages, I'd like it to behave like a 32 bit system that just happens to have a weird 64bit kernel19:15
dodoradio@smurray how would that kind of multiconfig work?19:15
smurraybasically just have that config specify the MACHINE=<64-bit machine>, and then tinker to switch kernel dependencies to use the appropriate mc: dependencies19:17
smurrayit likely would take some experimentation19:18
dodoradiois it possible for a multiconfig to behave like a normal machine? I tried to get a multiconfig setup working a few months ago (same device) but I was confused by the fact that every recipe now had to be executed as mc:[device-32bit]:[recipe-name]19:19
smurraythat's how multiconfigs work, if you want to depend on something in another one, you need to specify the mc:<config name>: prefix19:20
dodoradioif I set up this multiconfig, can I still do `MACHINE=machine bitbake device-image` or will it always end up being `MACHINE=machine bitbake mc:machine-32bit:device-image`?19:23
dodoradioif the former is still possible, what's the trick? I spent a lot of time trying to get it to work but never figured it out19:26
smurray@dodoradio so if you leave the 32-bit build as the default config, you'll still be able to just "bitbake device-image".  The wrinkle will be wiring up things so the kernel from the multiconfig gets picked up (to put in the image, or used with wic)19:33
dodoradioah, ok, thanks! yeah, last time I didn't manage to get the kernel properly building as a depend of the device image, but I'm more willing to tinker on now that I know that this is, indeed, the path foward19:34
dodoradiothank you so much for the support19:34
smurrayno worries, good luck19:37
