| rburton | someone was doing that, and they sent a load of refactoring to core so layers could provide their own package manager | 15:01 |
| rburton | but i don't think the work was finished | 15:01 |
| rburton | iirc Saur knows more? | 15:02 |
| Saur | shoragan: A colleague of mine worked on that about two years ago. However, as rburton says, the work was never finished, and it has most likely bitrotted since then... | 15:04 |
| rburton | can it be shared? | 15:04 |
| shoragan | ah, interesting. if the code is public, i'd take a look | 15:05 |
| Saur | rburton: Not in its current state (there is a number of Axis specific stuff in there unfortunately). I asked my colleague after rburton and I last spoke about this if he could bring it up to a shareable state. The problem is that he has changed team since he worked on this two years ago so the build system is no longer part of his work duties... | 15:08 |

| hrw | adding package manager is 'not that hard' | 16:06 |
| hrw | I remember backporting rpm support from Poky to OpenEmbedded. ~70 patches where first one was 'drop whatever is now in OE' kind | 16:06 |
| hrw | but it is something I would not try again | 16:07 |
| hrw | The good thing about opkg is that it is self-contained tool to install package from file and from feeds. Deb requires dpkg and apt. For rpm it would be good to also have dnf but that means python (unless microdnf). | 16:08 |
