| jonmason | Habbie: thanks, I'll add that to the wiki as a possibility | 21:31 |
| Habbie | all other recommendations i can give would be older and thus not better than what tripadvisor or google maps could tell you. As for bars, I have found (in many cities really) that the main problem is finding a random table with 20 seats, and once you find that, places tend to be fine | 21:32 |
| jonmason | thats the concern for us as well, without knowing how many people will come, we cannot make any plans ahead of time | 21:32 |
| Habbie | yeah, understood. good news is Amsterdam (again, like many big cities) has lots of options | 21:33 |

| Habbie | (Shiva is good for groups of 4-6, i don't think they'd work out for bigger unplanned groups) | 21:34 |
| jonmason | we might need to breakup into sub groups, as what we've done in the past | 21:37 |
| Habbie | yeah. i see how it's hard to plan. how big is your sold-out room? | 21:38 |
| jonmason | the absolute max is 30 and we're about there | 21:39 |
| Habbie | right | 21:40 |

| Habbie | so i hope a more recently experienced local will help you out | 21:45 |
| jonmason | thats the hope, and if not, to your earlier point, we'll get on google/tripadvisor | 21:46 |

| Habbie | i'm also considering showing up for dinner (i'm not going to try to take one of your 30 slots, my interest in OE is way too small to warrant even that fraction of the room) | 21:49 |
| jonmason | the room is pretty much full | 21:50 |
| Habbie | yeah i got that | 21:50 |
| jonmason | as long as it's not like last time where I had to ask people if they needed all the seats they booked | 21:50 |
| jonmason | I guess more is better than less people showing up | 21:51 |
| Habbie | as my sister once said "i only like organising things when everybody is awake and reachable and agrees with me" | 21:51 |

| Habbie | these systems are not always connected | 21:57 |
| jonmason | I got a free pass, but I just somehow forgot to actually register. I went to log in on the first day for the zoom and couldn't find the link | 21:58 |

| jonmason | yes | 22:02 |
| jonmason | who can afford it as an individual? It has to be company sponsored | 22:02 |

| *** Saur is now away: ♫ Matt Gray - Vendetta - Intro Theme ♫ | 22:18 | |
| jonmason | I think the fees are probably to cover the costs, and then they make them more interesting places, then the price goes up | 22:18 |
| Habbie | i recently said "RIPE and IETF really like expensive places" and a friend responded "well, they just have high demands of these places" and that kind of made sense to me | 22:22 |
| Habbie | but none of it helps non-corporate participation | 22:22 |
| jonmason | exactly, thus why FOSDEM is so fantastic | 22:23 |
| jonmason | I wish there was something similar in North America | 22:23 |
| Habbie | oh yes. it's absolutely amazing they get to do that with no registration or fees | 22:23 |
