thesignalhi, I've been trying to fix this for 2 days, but i can't find a solution: whenever i bake my own kernel (i called the recipe linux-faarm) the kernel gets deployed in a subdirectory of ../ipk/morgue instead of just ../ipk ,then when i want to bitbake my image, the kernel modules are not found, because they're in that wrong directory. also, when another kernel was build before and not bitbake -c clean'ed i get "NOTE: consider defining PREFERRED_PROVIDER_vi07:13
thesignalhas someone had the same problem and found a solution, or will i have to cleanup everything and place the files in the wrong directory to my /ipk directory?07:14

exosystI've downloaded the latest poky dylan release and can't get a simple core-image-minimal to build - the cross compiler fails, as does openssl. I'm guessing these are known bugs? Are there fixes though?12:10

exosystZagor, I can make it work if I patch it with this http://patchwork.openembedded.org/patch/52387/ but I get the feeling that official releases should "Just Work" and that I'm doing something wrong?12:16

exosystI patched the cross compiler one (there was a segfault building 4.7.2 with GCC 4.8) - I couldn't find out any errata on why it would be broken though - the fix was a bounds error in a function12:21
Zagorwhat distro are you building on?12:22
exosystI've since checked out the git repo rather than the official tarball and switched to the unversioned dylan tag and that seems to work12:22
exosystI'm on F1912:22
Zagorright, that would explain it12:25
exosystZagor, oh? :-/12:25
ZagorF19 was released after Dylan, and is thus not tested.12:26
Zagorthat's why you get the little notice from bitbake12:26
Zagorgrabbing from git is a better choice then12:26
exosystZagor, OK - so dylan branch is newer than dylan-9.0.1 then?12:27
bluelightningexosyst: yes12:27
bluelightningthe next stable release is very close though12:27
Crofton|workI'm on F19 and haven't noticed any issues yet12:28
exosystright - now it kinda makes sense12:28
exosystCrofton, I'm doing a fairly vanilla core-image-minimal so wasn't expecting any issues. I already filed a bug for the toolchain installer script which got fixed in master (not sure if that got backported?) but the openssl thing does look like broken pod files :-/12:29
bluelightningI will make sure to test on F19 before we do the next stable release12:31
exosystbluelightning, Is there anything I can do to help? We deliver training materials and try and stay with the latest and greatest so even just smoketesting for the project is beneficial to us too12:32
bluelightningexosyst: what is in my paule/dylan-next branch in the poky-contrib repo is pretty much what should become the next release, so if you could test that that would be awesome12:34
exosystbluelightning, Where would I find poky-contrib? How are you handling bug reports on it? Do you have a MAT for the project?12:35
bluelightningexosyst: a MAT?12:36
bluelightningexosyst: https://git.yoctoproject.org/cgit/cgit.cgi/poky-contrib/?h=paule/dylan-next12:36
exosystbluelightning, Minimum Acceptance Test. Checklist of things that have to be tested for distro compliance etc12:37
bluelightningexosyst: we do have a list of QA checks this will have to go through before release; it may be hard to nail down but it's all recorded in testopia which is accessible from the yocto project bugzilla12:37
bluelightningexosyst: mainly I just want to make sure issues like those with gcc and openssl on F19 are fixed12:38
bluelightning(before we run through the "full pass" tests)12:38
exosystbluelightning, So i'd need to join testopia (is that just bugzilla.yoctoproject.org ) and just keep filing bugs?12:40
exosystI didn't recall a product ID for poky-contrib? How do you want issues filed?12:40
bluelightningexosyst: it's kind of tricky with contrib branches like this; I guess the likelihood is this one will be merged though so it's probably not a big deal to file them as if they were in master12:41
bluelightningor in the dylan branch in this case12:42
exosystbluelightning, I'll make a note to test your branch out - is there a request-for-test you send out or is it just "try and build it once a week?"12:42
bluelightningexosyst: there's nothing formalised for community testing, no12:47
rburtonbluelightning: fwiw, i've asked beth if we can get stable branches autobuilt at least weekly for basic reproducability and host OS change testing13:00

Garibaldi|workHi folks.  I've run into a problem with runqemu-extract-sdk.  Suppose that I have tmp/deploy/image/core-image-foo.gz.  If I do a 'tar -tvf <that_file>', I see for example "drwxr-xr-x 0/0               0 2013-08-07 18:16 ./etc/".  After extracting it, I see "drwx------ 27 user group 4.0K Aug  7 14:16 etc".  Notice that the permissions on the directory have changed19:19
Garibaldi|workI need to preserve the directory's permissions19:20
*** lpapp <lpapp!~lpapp@kde/lpapp> has left #yocto19:23
mr_scienceare you extracting with -p ?19:23
Garibaldi|workI'm running rnuqemu-extract-sdk19:23
Garibaldi|workerr, 'runqemu-...'19:23
mr_sciencecan you see what the tar arguments are?19:23
Garibaldi|workxjf19:24
Garibaldi|workno p19:24
mr_scienceneeds p to presrve perms19:24
mr_sciencei'd call that a bug...19:25
Garibaldi|workjhhum19:25
kergothindeed19:25
Garibaldi|workso I modified the script to include p, but I see the same behavior19:25
mr_science-p should work no matter what user is running tar...19:26
kergothwell, if he's not root, it wont be able to chown it to root, unless its sudo tar'ing19:26
mr_sciencetrue19:26
seebsI have used a machine with very strict restrictions on sudo commands.19:27
seebsOne of the commands permitted: tar.19:27
mr_scienceor fakeroot/pseudo i suppose...19:27
Garibaldi|workyeah, I didn't expect it to be root/root19:27
Garibaldi|workbut I did expect the same file permissions19:27
* kergoth nods19:27
mr_sciencei would this shouldn't need sudo19:28
seebsWhat's your umask?19:28
kergoththat is odd, unless it's not overwriting the existing files for some reason?19:28
* kergoth shrugs19:28
Garibaldi|work002219:28
seebsI note that tar respects umask.19:28
* mr_science is having whole-word dropouts today...19:28
seebsMade an "x.tar" containing -rwxrwxrwx 1 seebs/seebs x.19:29
kergothah, interesting.19:29
kergothgood to know19:29
seebstar xf => -rwxr-xr-x (umask 022). tar xpf => -rwxrwxrwx19:29
seebsAlso, found a bug in tar19:29
kergothhuh19:29
seebs$ tar cf x.tar x19:29
seebs.. oh wait19:29
Garibaldi|workhum...19:30
seebsnevermind. I found a typo, I'd spelled it "tr". Which is why it said "extra operand".19:30
Garibaldi|workI think I might have found the issue19:30
seebskergoth: I might have a bunch of meta-sourcery patches coming up "soon".19:30
seebsSpecifically, enabling cross-canadian package creation, and a couple of related bits.19:30
Garibaldi|workbah, I think I have two different versions of tar with different behaviors19:31
seebsThat's the lovely thing about standards. There's so many of them to choose from!19:32
Garibaldi|workhehe19:32
Garibaldi|workwhat's worse, both claim to be GNU tar 1.2619:33
