msegfyes I'm using Ubuntu. I can see the problem both on 22.04 and 24.04, but I didn't any package upgrade. Previous do_package tasks did not fail, failures started since ctrl+c07:51

paulbarkermsegf: Which Yocto release are you using? Do you have the latest bitbake/OE-core versions on that branch?07:53
mcfriskleaked processes? kill them too. bitbake in some branches tends to do this.07:56
mcfriski think the process names are just "python"07:56
msegfmckoan: in Ubuntu 24.04 I already have tar 1.35 (from Ubuntu repos). Things went well until today (I didn't do any package upgrade). I can do a try with upstream tar built by myself07:58
msegfpaulbarker: I'm on Scarthgap, but not on latest version (locked down to this specific version)07:59
msegfmcfrisk: I rebooted the PC, but didn't help07:59
mcfriskthen it's the tmp, caches, sstate or download caches causing the issue08:00
paulbarkermsegf: What does `apt-get show tar | grep Version` show? Ignore the warning about an unstable interface, it should show you the exact package version installed08:04
paulbarkermsegf: tar 1.35+dfsg-3ubuntu0.2 has the new security fix which is causing issues, that was released last week08:06
msegfpaulbarker: Ubuntu 24.04 has Version: 1.35+dfsg-3ubuntu0.2  -  Ubuntu 22.04 has Version: 1.34+dfsg-1ubuntu0.1.22.04.408:07
msegfpaulbarker: then on 24.04 I have that issue due to that version08:08
paulbarkermsegf: Both of those were released last week, they may have been applied before your recent build and then interrupting bitbake caused something to rebuild on the next run, which now fails due to the tar issue08:08
msegfpaulbarker: probably the same fix was propagated to 22.04 tar too08:08
*** mathieum2048 is back08:08
paulbarkermsegf: Upgrading to the latest scarthgap release should help. If you're unable to do that then you could consider rolling back those tar upgrades (you'd lose the fix for CVE-2025-45582 on your build hosts)08:09
msegfpaulbarker: thank you very much for those info. I think I'll build the upstream tar from sources waiting for the next Ubuntu package release (I can't update scarthgap at the moment)08:11
msegfpaulbarker: just for the sake of curiosity, how is this handled in latest scarthgap releases?08:11
paulbarkermsegf: Ubuntu are not likely to change this with future package updates, their CVE fix is working from their point of view. It causes issues with pseudo which we have since fixed, but you'd need to update OE-core to get those fixes08:12

neachdainnI probably won't be able to join at this point but just a heads up: I'm either being really dumb or the password to join the meeting isn't working.14:46

rburtonif that works and you found a link that doesn't please tell someone exactly what link didn't work14:48
neachdainn...I was being dumb. I was clicking on the patch review meeting. That *was* asking for a password and I couldn't get it working, but it's probably moot. Sorry for the bother14:51
